From special paths, running events and fun runs to night runs and marathons - you'll never run out of running possibilities in Israel.

Alongside the Mediterranean sea or around the Sea of Galilee, in urban landscapes past historic landmarks, through biblical scenery; or even in the desert , Israel offers a myriad of running options that will keep you on your toes.

We all know that being outdoors and living an active lifestyle is key to a longer, healthier and happier life. Running as a form of exercise has gained immense popularity in the past decade, especially in Israel. Why? Because of how simple it is.  All you really need is a pair of running shoes (and maybe some comfy clothes you don’t mind sweating in).

Walk through any park in Israel in the morning or evening and you’ll encounter thousands of runners from all ages, in groups and alone. It has become the most popular activity in the country because of how accessible it is. The weather in Israel allows for outdoor sports nearly 350 days of the year (let alone a few rainy days). Running has gained so much popularity that almost every major municipality conducts some form of annual race. On the roads you may also notice lots of cars bearing bumper stickers with numbers. These are “trophies”, a way to boast to the world and tell them: “look how far I can run”.

If you don’t mind hilly terrain, running through Jerusalem is a very unique way to see and experience it. Tel Aviv has a park, a beachfront promenade and many boulevards that are all made to be run, but if the road isn’t for you, simply jump off it and go run on the beach. Try to find that sweet spot between the deep sand and the wet sand where the tide comes in. Running next to the waves is very relaxing, and you can even do it barefoot!

If you enjoy scenic landscapes, take a trip out to one of the many nature areas Israel has to offer. Run a trail in a forest, jog through meadows and orchards, race up a mountain in the desert, or stride side by side with a river or stream. The air will cleanse your lungs, the view will captivate your eyes, and the memories will last you a lifetime.
